Denmark to End Gambling Monopoly
The online gambling situation will soon be changing in Denmark as the ban on internet gambling will soon be coming to an end. A municipal court has recently ruled in favor of the legality of online poker tournaments. This ruling will lead to reform of the online gambling industry in the country.
The online gambling industry, including online casino gambling, will soon be open to competition. This will bring an end to the state gambling monopoly as other gaming companies will be able to enter the Danish market and compete, even if there are strict regulations.
There are approximately 250,000 online gamblers in Denmark that will be able to freely choose the online casinos and bookmakers that they want to gamble with, instead of being forced to use the state monopoly, Danske Spil. They will be able to take part in various promotions and specials that are offered by the other gambling companies.
The monopolistic practices of the state gambling monopolies in the EU countries have been the subject of examination by the EU, which maintains a policy of free competition. State sponsored gambling companies are in violation of this rule because they restrict competition by not allowing other gaming companies to have access to the market.
France, Holland, Germany and Poland are examining their own practices since they are threatened by legal action from the EU. The European Court of Justice ruled against the monopolistic practices in Italy in March 2007 and this is what led the Danish to examine their own policies.
Danish citizens will soon experience more freedom of choice in their election of a gambling company.
