Player’s Win Majority of Complaints
The e Commerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance, better known as eCOGRA, is an independent online watchdog entity that is involved in assuring the standards of fair play for online gamblers. The entity has released its annual report for 2007. The report indicates that 68 percent of complaints are settled in favor of the player.
There are 120 online casinos and poker rooms that adhere to the eCOGRA standards and carry the eCOGRA seal. Sites displaying the seal submit to arbitration in the resolution of player complaints. In 2007, there were 783 disputes between online players and their playing site that were brought to eCOGRA for arbitration. Ninety three of the disputes involved sites that weren’t a part of eCOGRA.
The eCOGRA arbitration service decides the validity of the dispute. Forty-five complaints were deemed to be invalid. The complaints are investigated by the staff before a ruling is rendered. Each side must abide by the ruling.
There was an increase in the number of complaints received by the watchdog entity in 2007. They attribute this to the fact that more players are learning of the existence of their arbitration service and are using it.
The arbitration service is one of the ways in which eCOGRA ensures the standards of fair play and fair treatment for players. The Safe and Fair seal means that there is a place where players can go if they can’t resolve their dispute with an online operator on their own.
