Bodog Seeks UK License
Bodog has applied for a United Kingdom gambling license as part of their plans to expand their European operations. Bodog online casino offers play in a variety of casino games in addition to sports betting and horse racing and has been one of the few online gambling entities to continue to take bets from U.S. players since the enactment of UIGEA.
Bodog founder Calvin Ayre says that the company is not doing anything illegal and that they have licenses from sovereign jurisdictions to engage in the business that they engage in.
Bodog has been targeting the European market, even though it already has an Antiguan license that it uses in Europe. The company would not need the UK license to operate in the UK since they use their Antiguan license for that purpose. Most gambling companies have been avoiding the United Kingdom because of the fifteen percent remote gaming tax that was imposed last year. Bodog is one of the few that isn’t trying to avoid the UK regulatory regime.
In applying for a license, Bodog must pass a fit and proper operator test. This means that they must prove that they can comply with the UK standards and regulations.
