Antigua Makes UK White List

When the United Kingdom changed its gambling rules, they provided for online playing sites to be able to advertise in the UK if they were from approved licensing jurisdictions. These approved jurisdictions are on a list called the White List. Antigua, which was not on the White List, has received approval from the UK government.
The 96 online casinos that are licensed in Antigua and Barbuda will be able to begin advertising on November 21 since their licensing jurisdiction has recently been approved by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The environment provided by Antigua was deemed to be safe for UK players in that it is free from crime, it has safeguards to protect children and that the games are fair. Antigua has been fighting for more than a year to achieve its objective of being included on the White List.

The Antiguan gambling industry was hurt when the United States passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006. The U.S. was concerned with money laundering and other criminal activities, shady business practices and the protection of children and vulnerable people. These are basically the same concerns of the British and the purpose of the White List. The addition of Antigua to the White List basically means that they meet the British standards in these areas.

Dr. Errol Cort, Antiguan Minister of Finance is please with the results of Antigua being included on the White List feeling it indicates his government’s success at providing the proper environment for the gaming industry to function in.
