Antigua is Still Hoping
The small Caribbean island of Antigua is still hoping to make the United Kingdom’s White List. Inclusion on the White List is a prerequisite to advertising for the jurisdiction’s licensed gambling companies. If a jurisdiction’s gambling companies cannot advertise, they cannot compete with the ones that do so it is important for them to be able to advertise.
Jurisdictions currently on the White List are Alderney, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Malta and Tasmania. At the last update, Antigua and Kahnawake were not on the List. As a result, Dr. Earl Cort, Antigua’s minister of finance and a delegation, traveled to London to meet with the people at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. After the meeting, Dr. Cort was confident that they could work out the details and gain acceptance to the White List. The apparent reason for the exclusion was the slowness of responses to customer complaints among the companies licensed in their jurisdiction.
The Antigua Sun paper contacted the minister to ask for an update on the situation. He told the paper that they are still hopeful. They feel that they will be included on the List which will allow their licensed gambling companies to advertise. Many companies have been switching to jurisdictions that are on the White List and this is the situation that Antigua is trying to prevent.
