Malta Gaming Summit

The Global Interactive Gaming Summit for Executives (GIGSE) is scheduled for May 20 – 25th in Malta. This will be the tenth year of the conference and the first time ever that it is being held in Malta. It will also be the first time that the event will be by invitation only.

This organization was forced to evolve as a result of events in the online gambling industry. One of the biggest events that affected the organization was the enactment of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in the United States which made it illegal for financial organizations to process financial transactions between U.S. players and their online gambling companies. This effectively closed the U.S. market to online gambling.

The GIGSE has been redesigned to represent the current online gambling market which basically consists of a hodge-podge of executives and business leaders, government representatives and academics. The conference provides a venue for them to come together and discuss the issues. The invitations will soon be sent out for this year’s event.

Last year’s conference was held in Montreal. There were both exhibits and conferences at the meetings which had more than six hundred participants from forty different countries.
